How I Save to Buy Designer Bags
It’s kind of become a tradition that every year on my birthday, I buy a designer bag. Strategically on my birthday because that’s when I get some extra $$ from my family ;). But it’s never ever an impulse purchase. It may be silly to some but they are very well thought out, which (to me) they should be if you are spending hundreds of dollars on an accessory.
In case you are planning a high end purchase or need advice on how to save up, here’s my buying process from beginning to end.
First – Decide which bag you want to get
From here, you know the price and how much you have saved up or need to save up. Never ever ever ever go to into debt to buy a bag!!!
Second – Come up with a savings plan
You know exactly how much you need so that determines how much to save on a weekly or monthly basis, whatever you prefer. Your savings account is not equal to your bag savings. Don’t mix these two together and don’t stop your regular savings to save for the purchase.
Third – Cut out unnecessary expenses
You’re probably going to hate what I’m about to say BUT pedicures and manicures are not necessary. On average, to get a mani/pedi a month, I spend at least $70 (to go just once!!). If you take care of that at home, in 4 months, you’ve already saved $280.
Reduce the amount of times you eat out. I try to limit myself to three times a week. The amount of groceries you can get for $20 is a lot more than just one meal. And order water to drink.
Another expense I’m trying to cut out this year is eyebrow waxing. This is the hardest one ever! My eyebrows are a hot mess right now. About to look up YouTube videos on how to shape them at home lol! Hoping to not give in! That’s $30 a visit. In four months, $120.
Fourth – Reduce spending in general
Find areas where you can cut back on and tighten those purse strings. Instead of buying four new clothing pieces a month, buy two…
In this example, the total is $400 plus whatever you are saving on a monthly basis. Let’s say $100. In four months, you’ve saved $800. That can get you a designer back or close to what you are trying to get, unless it’s a Birkin…haha! But if is, keep this up for a while and you’ll get there!
Thanks for stopping by! Have a great Thursday!
