How to Take Outfit Photos Yourself
Now that you have made space in your closet for new clothes (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, read last post :)), you can start thinking about Spring/Summer pieces. The moment I saw this dress, it was love at first sight..haha! I’m a sucker for pieces with unique touches. The dress is only $33 and is made of quality material. If you are petite though, it will need to be altered. For this fit, it was hemmed, taken in on the side a tad, and the sleeves were shortened. Quite a bit of alterations but the dress is so pretty, returning wasn’t an option. These are also my favorite wedges. You can walk in them all day! Size down half a size.
The pictures in this post were taken by my mom but the ones in the previous post were done by myself. I’ve gotten some questions regarding outfit photos and whether or not I work with a photographer. At the moment, my mom is my photographer. We usually set aside 3 hours one day and take my pictures for that week. Sometimes, she goes on vacation but not posting isn’t an option. So I had to figure out a way to continue taking outfit photos without a photographer (they can get pretty expensive!). My next best option was using a tripod and remote. I use this and this (not the best but work). Now that you’ve got your gear, these are my tips on how to take outfit photos yourself:
First off, make sure you are in a safe area. Don’t go anywhere you don’t know by yourself! Imma tell your momma if you do!!
Set the tripod and camera at your best angle (I take most my pictures from a lower angle)
Flip the screen so you can see your position/poses
Take a couple of pictures to test out exposure and aperture (what makes backgrounds blurry)
Once those are set, snap away
Make sure you get a variety of photos (Full Body, Upper/Bottom Half, Details, Accessories)
Since the camera will stay in place, you will have to move around to get the different shots. Just make sure you are in focus.
I try to hide the remote in my hand or bag..sometimes it will end up in the shot and it’s ok.
Hope these tips help you out! No excuses about not having a photographer. Ya gotta make it work!
Thanks for stopping by! Have a great day!
